Constipation is defined as a decrease in the number of bowel movements or difficulty in passing stools. It is recommended to follow a diet rich in fibre, increasing the consumption of foods such as wholegrain bread and cereals, raw vegetables, pulses and nuts.  Season meals with plenty of olive oil. It is also important to maintain proper hydration, about one and a half litres a day, and to go for regular walks to help activate the gut.
