The project
Q
When a cancer is diagnosed, the patient is presented with many questions: about the treatment to cope with the disease, about the new everyday life, about a new life…. Also about a new way of eating. A good diet is essential to ensure a good nutritional status in order to tolerate these oncological treatments. These guidelines are different to those for cancer prevention. Here we present eating during the disease.

You can find: recipes designed to attenuate the most common side effects that appear with the disease, such as loss of appetite or distortion of taste; dieticians-nutritionists who explain the main side effects that occur; and general advice.

These are general guidelines that in no case replace the individualized indications of the team of specialists. This is a production of La Xarxa de Comunicació Local with the scientific and technical support of the Alícia Foundation, the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL), Institute of Health Research Pere Virgili (IIPSV) and the University of Barcelona (UB). And which falls within the FOOD4HEALTH project (European funding) in order to internationalise its diffusion

SIDE EFFECTS

Recommendations from dieticians-nutritionists
General advice during cancer
Eating a balanced diet helps to better tolerate cancer treatment and its side effects. As far as possible, you should divide your meals into five meals a day, in small, varied portions. Don’t worry if at some point you eat too little, just keep trying.
